Car buyer finds phone, child porn in vehicle once owned by sex offender

7-29-2014 Florida:

An unsuspecting car buyer made an unsettling discovery when he found child pornography on a cell phone left inside a Pontiac that once belonged to a sex offender, FBI agents said.

Federal prosecutors in Orlando filed two child pornography charges this week against Jesse A. Brown, who previously served separate prison sentences for sexually abusing girls, and then for failing to register as a sex offender.

Court records said Brown was convicted in 1992 of sexually abusing two 8-year-old girls in South Dakota, and sentenced to roughly 19 years in prison.

In 2012, Brown moved to Winter Garden, where police received a complaint he was trying to lure children to his car, records said.

Brown was arrested and later convicted of failing to register as a sex offender in Florida. He was sentenced to nearly two years in federal prison followed by 10 years probation.

Brown's 2005 Grand Prix was towed and later sold, according to court records.

When the new owner cleaned out the Pontiac, he found Brown's cell phone, which had pictures of child pornography stored on the device, records said.

The car buyer contacted authorities to report the discovery.

When FBI agents questioned Brown about the phone, records show he admitted hiding the device in his trunk.

Brown, 62, said he used that phone only to access the Internet and estimated he saved about 100 images depicting child pornography on the device.

Brown said he collected child pornography for several years, which he used "as a crutch to keep from acting out physically against children," records said.

Brown was arrested Monday and made his first court appearance Tuesday. He remains jailed in Orange County. ..Source.. by Amy Pavuk
