11-1-2008 Masachusetts:
A mother and son were killed after being struck by a car while trick-or-treating in Westfield Friday night.
Westfield Police say 47 year old Roberta Salois and her 7 year old son Steven were both wearing dark clothing and were walking on South Maple Street near Dewey Ave just after 8:30pm.
Police say 26 year old Anne Schlichtig of Westfield was driving at the time of the accident.
Witnesses say the mother was thrown about 100 feet after being struck, and that either the mother or son was dragged by the car.
The mother and child were transported to area hospitals, where they they later died.
The speed limit in the area is 35 MPH. The crash remains under investigation.
