Passers-by, police officers injured pulling people from vehicles
Two people are dead and several others were taken to hospital following a fiery two-vehicle crash in Richmond Hill Halloween night.
A Jeep Liberty SUV and a Mazda caught fire after colliding on Bayview Avenue just north of 16th Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Friday.
Passers-by and York Regional Police officers pulled two people from the Mazda, but one of them died at the scene, Insp. Gary Miner said. Another passenger, who was trapped in the car, also died.
The surviving passenger is in Sunnybrook Health Science Centre in Toronto with life-threatening injuries including burns.
The people in the Jeep were taken to York Central Hospital in Richmond Hill where they were treated and released.
No names have been released.
Several civilians and five police officers were taken to York Central with smoke inhalation and minor burns.
