Maine sex offender run over after alleged assault attempt, police say

Police report that James Oliver, 48, of Hampden, suffered a serious leg injury after his girlfriend ran him over with a car when she allegedly caught him attempting to assault a 12-year-old.

Police say that a convicted sex offender is recovering from injuries Tuesday after his girlfriend ran him over with a car when she caught him trying to sexually assault a 12-year-old relative.

Lincoln County deputies were called to a home on East Neck Road in Nobleboro at 11:30 p.m. Saturday for a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they found James Oliver, 48 of Hampden, lying in the driveway after being hit and run over by a car.

A fight had broken out between Linda Currier, 53, of Hampden, and Oliver, her boyfriend, after she walked in on him trying to have sex with the 12-year-old girl.

Both Currier and Oliver had been drinking, police said.

Currier was charged with driving drunk and aggravated assault. She was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail and later released on bail pending a court appearance.

Oliver was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta and then to Maine Medical Center for treatment of a serious leg injury.

He was arrested Tuesday after his release from the hospital on charges of attempted gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual touching and failing to comply with the sex offender registration act because he did not provide a current address. He was then taken to the Maine State Prison infirmary in Warren pending a court appearance.
