MARION — The legislations, codes and regulations committee of City Council has sent an amended ordinance to full Council that prohibits sex offenders from living within 1,500 feet of a school, YMCA or YWCA, park or other city-operated recreational facility.
The law would not be retroactive. If, for example, a sex offender currently lives within 1,100 feet of a school, this law will not take effect until he or she moves. Josh Daniels, D-at large and Law Director Mark Russell said this is to make sure the city does not get sued for making someone move under the law.
Daniels said he may add more to the ordinance, including a section that would ban sex offenders from entering pools, libraries, parks or other facilities. ..Source.. by Michelle Rotuno-Johnson
