A nonprofit organization that provides housing to more than 200 registered sex offenders in Oklahoma City mobile home parks is asking a federal judge to halt enforcement of a new law that would force about 90 residents to move.
The law, which takes effect Sunday, would expand a ban on more that one sexual offender living in a house or apartment to also include mobile homes.
Hand Up Ministries wants the judge to ban enforcement of the law until the judge can rule on whether it is constitutional.
The organization houses registered sex offenders at three locations in Oklahoma.
Residents of the largest mobile home park have discussed moving into tents if the law is allowed to take effect.
A federal lawsuit filed June 6 in the Western District of Oklahoma asks the court to halt the law’s implementation and prevent David Nichols, the director of the nonprofit, from being prosecuted under it. ..Source.. by JULIANA KEEPING
