Call for changes in Washington sex offender rolls

6-10-2012 Washington:

A Seattle lawyer who represents sex offenders says Washington needs to change its sex offender registration system. Attorney Brad Meryhew says lawmakers should consider how registration and public attention affects offenders' ability to find housing and work. It also may make them targets of violence, like two men killed in Clallam County.

Meryhew is part of a panel for a state House Public Safety Committee meeting Thursday in Olympia.

He told KIRO-FM there are 20,000 people on the state sex offender registration rolls and the system needs to be change to stop vilifying some who pose little risk. ..Source.. by The Daily Astorian
