Ohio Lawmakers Call For Arsonist Registry

The old recidivism claim again! And, as usual not supported by any facts.
4-19-2012 Ohio:

COLUMBUS, Ohio - State lawmakers pushed for an arsonist registry, similar to the one in place for convicted sex offenders, to be implemented in Ohio, 10TV’s Jason Frazer reported on Wednesday.

One arson victim said that she is hopeful the plan, which already passed the state senate, will become law.

Teresa Grant said that she came home from vacation on March 25 to find her Reeb Avenue home boarded up.

“We’ve lost most of our clothes,” Grant said. “I even lost my shoes. I had to borrow shoes to wear.”

Investigators believed that her home was deliberately set on fire. Investigators also believed the home across from Grant’s was set on fire.

“This neighborhood is being ruined by arsonists,” Grant said.

The state’s fire marshal said that in 2012, arsons caused more that $143 million in damage and killed 91 people.

The proposed law would force convicted arsonists to register with their sheriff’s office within 10 days of being released from jail and will have to check in once a year, Frazer reported.

“People need to know who they are, knowing that if there in their neighborhood they could burn you next,” Grant said.

Investigators said that most arsonists are repeat offenders.

Grant said that it will take months to recover what the fire took from her in seconds. ..Source.. by 10TV.com
