Gov Jindal pushes to ban sex offenders from public libraries

He's back with more of his nonsense.
3-11-2012 Louisiana:

Governor Bobby Jindal announced his support for SB 162 by Sen. Dale Erdey, which restricts access to public libraries for certain sex offenders.

Governor Jindal said, “This session we’re pushing for a number of new laws that continue to crack down on sex predators so they can’t harm children in our state. Like schools and playgrounds, libraries should be a place where children can feel protected. This legislation is another important step we can take to make our communities safe from sex predators.”

Currently, convicted sex offenders who committed a sex offense against a victim under the age of 13, are prohibited from residing or physically being on or within 1,000 feet of school property or a park. This legislation makes the current crime of unlawful presence of a sex offender also applicable to public libraries, so that it will be illegal for such sex offenders to reside, be on, or within 1,000 feet of a public library. “Public library” will include the State Library of Louisiana, any parish or municipal library and any college or university or school library. ..Source..
