Officials: Sex offenders can't vote at schools

Typical of lawmakers, they fail to think ahead. All voting places must be handicap accessible, which means whatever alternate means are chosen must also be handicap accessible. And, interpreters for the language challenged, and provisions for vision challenged. This may turn out to be VERY COSTLY for the state, but lawmakers do not care, they want their minute or two of fame.
5-10-2011 Indiana:

Right now, Indiana law only stops sex offenders who are on parole or probation from entering schools.

That's the reason why a state senator in Lake County wants to make a change, barring "any" registered sex offender from stepping on school grounds.

However, in Vigo County officials are already one step ahead. Sex offenders, registered at a school to vote get a letter before each election. It's from the county election board. It says if they intend to vote, they can't do it at a school, and they'll have to do it some other way.

"By sending a letter to each one of them individually, they certainly know here that they are not permitted to be on the school premises to vote," Pat Mansard, the Vigo County Clerk said.

The Vigo County Clerks office says they began doing this in conjunction with Vigo County Schools policy.

That policy says that "no registered sex offender may come on the property of a Vigo County School Corporation school."

People who violate may face criminal charges.

Voting is a federal right, that can't be denied. That's why in the letter the election board lists other ways offenders can vote.

They include early voting, and voting by absentee ballot.

Officials in Vigo County hope the state as a whole will follow suit. ..Source.. by WTHI TV.com

Is it for the safety of the children? Do the school or voting officials, or better yet, parents, not notice if their child is missing? True SO's don't work like that. People (the system) think that SO's just want to grab these kids and molest them on the spot. Outrageous.
