Bill to bar sex offenders from social networking sites deleted in committee

Finally, someone is seeing through the nonsense Runner has placed before the legislature..
8-15-2010 California:

A bill that would ban paroled sex offenders from joining Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites died in the Assembly Appropriations Committee on Thursday.

Appropriations Committee Chairman Felipe Fuentes, D-Sylmar, did not bring it up for a vote, Leigh Carter, spokeswoman for committee Vice-Chairwoman Connie Conway, R-Tulare, said. The failure of a committee vote guaranteed that the bill would miss a Friday deadline it needed to move to the Assembly floor, Carter said.

Carter said she wasn’t sure why Fuentes didn’t offer the bill up for a committee vote. Neither Fuentes nor a spokesman for the San Fernando Valley assemblyman, Raul Bocanegra, were available for comment late Thursday afternoon.

State Senator George Runner, R-Lancaster, author of the bill, SB 1204, was incensed by the no vote. Runner’s Senate District 17 covers much of the Victor Valley.

A blistering news release from his office called “pedophiles the winners today at the State Capitol” because the committee refused to pass the bill.

“This is a good day for sex offenders and a bad day for our children,” Runner stated in the release. “The committee’s refusal to take an extra step to protect our children is further proof that some of California Legislators are out of touch with the community and the rest of the country.” ..Source.. Maybe if parents took some control over their children, they wouldn't be in "danger" anyway?

Plus the fact that a) children under 13 shouldn't be on facebook and b) their terms and conditions ban convicted sex offenders from joining...

It has come down to " money " and the lack there of.Runner is saying this because there are some special interest groups that are upset they did not get there own way and now once again children are being used as " political pawn ".Lets hope this is a start to a new trend that goes in the right direction.
