1-25-2010 Wisconsin:
MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - Wisconsin’s chief public defender wants the State Supreme Court to denounce a TV ad Justice Michael Gableman ran in his election campaign 2 years ago. The court has been asked to decide if Gableman violated the state’s judicial code in running the ad – which attacked incumbent Justice Louis Butler who was defeated.
The ad showed Butler’s face, as a public defender, next to the face of a convicted sex offender he represented – and it said Butler used a loophole to free the man, only to see him re-offend. The ad did not say the Supreme Court later returned the man to prison.
Now, state Public Defender Nicholas Chiarkas wrote the court, saying the ad cast serious doubt on Gableman’s ability to be fair to African-American suspects – and the court must denounce the ad.
Gableman recently denied being biased against any criminal defendants. And he vowed to be fair to everyone who appears before the court. ..Source.. WTAQ.com
