Parents Track Sex Offender Homes for Halloween

Things parents need to be aware of:

A) ThinAir WireLess is the company bebuthind the iPhone application mentioned below. Their intent (hidden) is to sell products and services through their fear-mongering "Offender Locator" program which locates homes of sex offenders;

B) A Department of Justice study shows that 97% + of new sex crimes against minors are committed by family, friends and acquaintances of minors (see chart below). Think carefully, avoiding homes of former sex offenders causes you to place your child at the very homes of the people who are MOST LIKELY to commit a sex offense with a child. Those homes which ARE NOT former sex offender homes, but are family friends and acquaintances of your child.

Parents, is the company's advice GOOD for your child, does it really PROTECT your child? Our advice is, ignore companies that TWIST and HIDE the truth about safety, accompany your child and enjoy Halloween as it should be enjoyed.

But critics warn friends, family members responsible for most kid assaults

Parents are preparing for their kids' trick or treating this year with a costume, candy bag—and a map of all the sex offenders in the neighborhood. Concerned families are turning to an iPhone application mapping sex offender addresses to plan routes on the spooky night. "With Halloween, I'm able to see if anybody on the list is located near me,” a New Jersey mom told the Times of London.

The Offender Locator application has been downloaded a million times since it became available in June. Some 700,000 sex offenders have registered across the nation. Halloween is a "prime time for sexual predators," said an official with the company that created the software.
