FL- Police: We Know How Somer Was Killed

10-23-2009 Florida:

Police updated the search for Somer Thompson's killer in a morning news conference Friday. Here are details released by Clay County Public Information Officer Mary Justino:

Police know the cause of death, but have to preserve the integrity of the investigation so they are not going to release any information.

They are convinced she was murdered, but did not answer any other questions about a possible assault.

Detectives and the FDLE worked through the evening at that home on Gano Avenue, which was the last place Somer was seen alive. The home is abandoned following a fire earlier this year.

Whatever evidence they get, they're taking to the crime lab in Jax--it's the #1 priority.

Police have had a total of 810 leads and they continue to follow up on each one.

The family is meeting with officials from the Jacksonville Memory Gardens and may finalize funeral arrangements today.

There has been an outpouring of donations and offers for the funeral.

Overnight, detectives interviewed the remaining five sex offenders/predators in the 5 mile range. That means all 90 have been contacted in person, homes searched, properties searched, and they feel certain they don't have any suspects in that group.

The case will be featured this weekend on America's Most Wanted. Sheriff Rick Beseler was interviewed by John Walsh. ..Source.. by WOKV.com
