5-14-2009 North Carolina:
Social networking websites could be off the hook from lawsuits when they’re being used by sex offenders to find targets.
House Bill 1267 passed the Science and Technology Committee in Raleigh on Wednesday.
If adopted, the social websites would not be liable for damages if they make good faith attempts to screen out users listed on the state sex offender registry.
Current law leaves them open to civil lawsuits.
The bill now goes to the Judiciary 2 committee. ..News Source.. by Jim Niedelman
