MT- Senate considers restrictions on juvenile sex offenders

3-20-2009 Montana:

A bill heard on the floor of the Montana Senate on Friday would create geographical restrictions for juvenile sexual offenders.

House Bill 55 would impose the same residency restrictions on juveniles that adult sex offenders are required to follow, unless the court approves a stay for the juvenile offender in a home, program, or facility for delinquent youth .

MT State Senator Greg Hinkle (R-Thompson Falls) explained, "The whole thing about this bill is to protect our children and our grandchildren from these Level Three offenders, which are the worst of the worst. That's what this bill is all about and I'd appreciate a lot of green up there on the board or favorable ayes," referencing the vote tally board.

The bill passed its third reading with a 40-9 vote and now moves to the Governor's desk. ..News Source.. by Kay Rossi for KXLH
