VT- Juvenile Sex Offender Changes Plea

12-27-2008 Vermont:

A juvenile sex offender appeared in Vermont District Court in Burlington to change his plea Friday.

_____, 18, pleaded guilty to a charge of a prohibited sex act that stemmed from an incident in April 2008. By changing his plea, the state dismissed two other charges against _____ stemming from an incident on December 8. Prosecutors say _____ was involved in a minor car accident in Burlington.

_____ is now suspended with probation. Special conditions include a sex offender treatment program based on _____'s juvenile record.

Chittenden County State's Attorney T.J. Donovan says the plea agreement works in the best interest of the community and _____'s rehabilitation.

"I think his plea agreement does two things," Donovan says. "It protects the community by highlighting the underlying issue. And it also gives _____ the opportunity to be a law-abiding citizen."

After being removed from his Mother's house across the street from the Flynn Elementary school on Burlington's North Avenue - a Judge struck down the one-thousand foot rule for _____. He says it's not possible to live that far away from a school or daycare in Burlington.
