Restrictions only apply to those on parole or probation.
10-23-2008 Wisconsin:
WISCONSIN (WAOW) -- Halloween is a fun time for kids, but it's also a holiday that can lure out predators.
That's why the state always reminds people about its sex offender registry during the month of October.
But this year, Wisconsin leaders are hoping to make this Halloween safer than ever.
Most parents know to keep a close eye on their kids while they're trick-or-treating.
What they don't know is that there are close to 300 registered sex offenders in Marathon County.
Now, there's a special Halloween bulletin on the registry web site to help residents find out where sex offenders live.
Department of Corrections field supervisor Mike Williams says, "The mapping is a good tool because it will show your neighborhood and it will tell you who's living there."
In addition to the mapping tool, the department of corrections doubles its supervision efforts.
-Notice, DOC, DOC Agents, these folks only control those on parole or probation.
Williams says, "Our agents team up with law enforcement, we go out during the time periods that the communities designate for trick or treating, we check on the high risk offenders."
By law, sex offenders aren't allowed to participate in any Halloween-related activity and Williams says they usually don't.
"They know we're going to be out there and they know we're going to be checking so therefore we have good compliance on this."
To check out the mapping web site visit http://widocoffenders.org then click on the link www.familywatchdog.us
The mapping program is updated weekly, while Wisconsin's sex offender registry list is updated daily.
Williams recommends checking both sites for the most accuracy. ..News Source.. by Meg Bonacorsi

Has there ever been a single case of a RSO sexually abusing a child on Halloween?
