NY- Sex offenders, juveniles under scrutiny for Halloween

10-24-2008 New York:

Sex offenders and juvenile delinquents are banned for Halloween, say police

Probation departments in Washington and Warren counties have banned sex offenders who are on probation from giving out candy on Halloween.

The two agencies have directed sex offenders to remain in their homes and not answer the door during the holiday.

Anthony White, Washington County’s probation director, said his department will also ban juvenile delinquents from going out on Halloween or the night before, commonly known as Cabbage Night.

White said there are 44 sex offenders on probation in Washington County, and about 50 juvenile delinquents on probation.

The state Division of Parole in years past has also directed sex offenders on parole to obey a curfew, not give out candy and not answer the door on Halloween.

Warren County Probation Director Robert Iusi said his agency will work with local police to check the homes of sex offenders on probation to make sure they are complying.

"We told them they need to abide by a 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew and remain indoors, that all exterior lights must be turned off, no Halloween decorations at their home," Iusi said. ..News Source.. by PostStar.com
