IL- Convicted sex offender arrested at NA school

Assuming the man even knows about the law, he obviously has some sort of scheduling problem, a simple notice to him for the future would likely have prevented a full court battle at taxpayer expense. Given the facts here this amounts to an abuse of power.

10-11-2008 Illinois:

ST. CHARLES – A convicted sex offender was arrested this week after dropping off his child at a North Aurora school.

North Aurora police Lt. Scott Buziecki said Friday that James Patterson, 33, was arrested Thursday morning at Fearn Elementary School on Hawksley Lane.

Patterson was convicted in 1996 on multiple counts of aggravated criminal sex assault, placing him on the state’s Sex Offender Registry. He also was sentenced to prison for the crime.

Those on the registry are not allowed to be on school grounds, unless they have permission from the superintendent, Buziecki said.

After a teacher recognized Patterson – as a convicted sex offender – dropping off his child on Wednesday morning, police were called and investigated whether Patterson was granted permission to be on school grounds, Buziecki said.

Patterson was not given that right, and officers waited for him to arrive Thursday morning and arrested him after he dropped off his child. Buziecki said Patterson never was inside the school.

Information about Patterson’s bail and whether he posted bond to be released from jail was not available Friday afternoon.

Court records indicate Patterson also has a drug possession conviction and a pending battery case in Kane County. ..News Source.. by Kane County Chronicle
