IL- Sex offender mom charged

Proof that laws governing sex offenders make no sense at times. This woman would be charged with child endangerment for not picking up the child. So she had to make a decision, which charge to be charged with. Sex offender laws construed as this one was, are clearly overbroad and unconstitutional. Laws that place a person in a situation where they must decide, as she was, must be declared unconstitutional as applied in this case.

9-16-2008 Illinois:

A mother who is a registered sex offender was charged today in Madison County with illegally being in a school zone for allegedly picking up her son from Mitchell Elementary School on Friday, the sheriff’s office said.

Callie Wilson, 31, of the first block of Tulip Court in Pontoon Beach, is not allowed within 500 feet of the school, which is near Granite City, when children are present and is required to have a written authorization from the school to be on school property, the sheriff’s office said.

Wilson was convicted of a child pornography-related crime that happened when she was 19 and the victim was 13, according to the Illinois sex offender registry. ..News Source.. by FROM STAFF REPORTS
