NV- Changes coming to Nevada sex offender monitoring

This report says, it will help the public make sense of this change. There isn't a single thing they could say which would make sense of this change by the Adam Walsh Act.

There is no current assessment of anyone, the only thing these tiers will show is, the degree of seriousness that the legislature has assigned to the criminal code (what the person WAS convicted of). This will not tell the public a single thing about the person today, zip zilch zingo, nothing.

Lawmakers have totally bambozzled the public with this useless system. Remember folks, when those crimes were committed was YESTERDAY. i.e., 5-10-20-30-40-and even 50 years ago. Nothing is learned about the registrant today. No personal assessment!

Further, no one has done any cost analysis of what law enforcement spends (or will spend) on monitoring the different tiers of the registry. I am quite sure, in law enforcement minds, they will want to spend more time on the higher tiers than the lower ones, there are costs associated with that.

The report here show 115 today, and up to 2,000 after the Adam Walsh Act takes over. Taxpayers, open up your pocketbooks and start donating to the police, or wait for the next tax increase its sure to come!

6-24-2008 Nevada:

Sex offenders who have served their time are living in our communities under the watchful eye of neighbors and law enforcement. Very soon, the scrutiny will get even tougher. Crime Tracker 3 is explaining the changes.

There are about two million people living in Clark County. 4,200, less than two-tenths of one percent, are registered sex offenders. Of those 4200, most live in Metro's jurisdiction, about three hundred live in Henderson and North Las Vegas.

"Right now, we have roughly 115 Tier 3 registered sex offenders," Metro's Captain Vincent Cannito explains. "Come July 1, you're going to see roughly 1,500 to 2,000 Tier 3 registered sex offenders."

President Bush signed the federal Adam Walsh Act in 2006 to expand the National Sex Offender Registry and to create national standards for ranking sex offenders. The law established three tiers, rankings based on the crime the offender committed.

Right now, you can go to the local or state online registries and only see offenders ranked two or three. But starting July 1, you'll be able to see just about every registered offender. "So we'll be able to tell you everybody that is a registered sex offender in Clark County, with some very minor exceptions involving the Tier ones," Captain Cannito said.

So you'll have access to a whole lot more information, but what you see might be a little frightening at first. We'll help you make sense of it all in the coming days. ..News Source.. by News 3
