The People-Power Hour on Sat 4-26-08

Call-in April 26th, Saturday from 11:00AM until Noon on 1190 AM WAMT or via the Internet and call us: (407) 273-1190 or toll-free nationwide (888) 300-3776. The PeoplePower Hour

The People-Power Hour is one of the most unique radio shows in Central Florida ... and most certainly the only one whose host, George Crossley, is able to distill the essence of national, state and local politics, activism, human rights and justice issues and show how these affect all Central Florida residents.

George Crossly is devoting another hour to talk about more unintended consequences of RSOs in the community. Specifically a group of them have been forced (due to residency restrictions) to live in the woods off Florida's John Young Pkwy. If they do not leave, the will be arrested and placed in jail. They have been here for some time.

12-27-2007 With few alternatives, sex offenders sent to live in homeless camp

ORLANDO -- Walk along the snaking trail past abandoned tires, the huddled tents and old yellow strands of police crime tape, and you'll find a small group of homeless sex offenders awaiting the end of their probation.

They don't want to be in the woods off John Young Parkway and W.D. Judge Road. There's no running water. No sanitation. No electricity.

They found out about the camp from officials of the state Department of Corrections, who say they have nowhere else to send them.

The bathroom for one man is now a bedpan inside a tent. Outside the tent, hot dogs cook on a propane grill. Two hats embroidered with the word "Jesus" lay inside another tent.

"This is not a good situation for the offender; this is not a good situation for the community, but we're running out of options," department spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger said. "If we don't know where they are, we can't supervise them." ..more.. by SARA KIESLER, Staff Writer
