Attorney Doesn't Give Reason For Move

4-7-2008 Massachusetts:

BOSTON -- A convicted rapist from Tewksbury has dropped a lawsuit he filed against a woman who reported his record and the company that owns a local McDonald's, but he isn't giving any reason why.

Scott Gagnon, 50, a Level 3 sex offender who served 27 years in jail for multiple rape convictions, was fired from his cooking job at a Tewksbury McDonald's after Andrea Quinn told the fast-food restaurant about his criminal record. She said she was concerned for the safety of her 13-year-old son, who visits the restaurant. She said she didn't mean for Gagnon to get fired.

Last week it was announced he was suing his former employer for breach of contract. He accused Quinn of misusing information from the state's Sex Offender Registry Board Web site.

Language on the Web site says information on sex offenders cannot be used " ... to engage in illegal discrimination or harassments of an offender." It says doing so could result in jail time or a fine.

Gagnon's attorney, William Korman, declined to say why the lawsuits were dropped, the Boston Herald reported.

The company that owns the restaurant, Napoli Group LLC of Windham, N.H., declined to comment about the lawsuit last week but the restaurant owner said company policy prohibits the hiring of sex offenders.

Gagnon's classification as a Level 3 sex offender means he is considered most likely to re-offend. ..more.. by The Boston Channel
