John Stossel brings us a new series on the Age of Consent. Each week he has addressed a specific issue, a video and a written story. Also, don't forget to check the readers' comments as we found that even the well known vigilantes were harassing the commenters with their misconstructions and other nonsense. Finally, it was nice to see commenter telling their stories of how their lives were affected by the registry. So, sit back and enjoy, if new ones are posted we will update:

My concern is to all the thousands of people and thier families who have fallen victim to our National Sex Offender Registry. My God, this has gotten way out of hand. It's as if the law contradicts its self. First of all 90% of the people on the registry are harmless, so that just leaves a very few who are truely dangerous. Those are the only ones who we should be made aware of. People wonder why the offender maps look like it has chicken pox, well, now you know. Take the ones off the reistry who do not belong and then there want be such a panic and we can then focus on who is really a threat to our children. Now speaking of children, the law says a person under the age of 16 in N.C. is not capable of consenting to sex, whereas under the new law 14 year old sex offenders can be punished as adults. O.K., now I'm confused. If the law feels as if a person under 16 cannot consent, then how do you call a 14 year old a sex offender? This is outrageous! Come on people, a child is a child, not a young adult is a child. It is very discouraging when we have applied so much focus on the so-called offenders, who had nothing more than consensual sex with young adults. These people are our families! They are not child molesters. They would never think of harming a child, so why should they be labled as such? People need to know the facts. Quit basing your fears on myths rather than on facts. Also, the law allows people under the age of 16 to get married with thier parents consent, so its like saying a 15 year old is capable of consenting to marriage but not capable enough to consent to sex. The problem here is that the majority of people do not know nor do they understand the devastation that the National Regisrty is causing. It is doing more harm than good. Tru.
