CO- GPS for violent sex offenders

Is GPS worth it?
Note the number of violent sex offenders (50) in comparison to the number of actual sex offenders in Colorado (11,369 PML Chart), especially since it is a proven fact that GPS DOES NOT PREVENT crimes! GPS is a Prosecutor's tool used to prove an offender was at the scene of the crime, but that is after the crime has been committed. A useless tool for crime prevention!

State lawmakers have backed a bill requiring violent sex offenders to wear GPS tracking devices.

The vote followed emotional testimony yesterday, from the father of a Florida girl who was raped and murdered by a convicted sex offender.

Mark Lunsford, the man pictured here, told the House Judiciary Committee how his 9-year-old daughter Jessica was found in a plastic bag that she was buried alive in.

He said his daughter's killer kidnapped her from her own bedroom, three months after his GPS device was removed by authorities.

The bill will require convicted sex offenders under parole to be tracked with GPS.

There are 91 sexually violent predators living in Colorado and several hundred more are in prison that the bill would apply to.

There are already 50 offenders who are being monitored by GPS, because they're considered to be the most high risk.

It costs about 15 dollars a day to track a sex offender with GPS.

Part of the bill would require the sex offenders to pay for the tracking system themselves. ..more.. by KJCT8.com
