Again we see lawmakers doing something, not based on any evidence of need, but on personal feelings of the lawmaker!3-13-2013 Michigan:
Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder today signed into law the first bills of the new legislative session, approving an expansion of the public sex offender registry and two technical fixes related to fuel taxes and firearms dealers. ... ... ...
Public Act 2 will expand Michigan's public sex offender registry to include a wider range of crimes involving victims who are minors. While those offenders already appear on the registry available to law enforcement, they do not appear on the public website maintained by the state.
Republican state Sen. Rick Jones of Grand Ledge sponsored SB 44, which won unanimous approval in the Senate and passed the House in a 106-3 vote. He previously told MLive that the new law will apply apply to certain offenders he feels should be on the public website, including a woman convicted of allowing her boyfriend to sexually assault and photograph her six-year-old sister. "This is a pretty serious situation," he said. ..Source.. by Jonathan Oosting
