Someone finally ALMOST gets it, these laws are supposed to PREVENT CRIME not keep politicians in office!11-5-2009 Florida:
Sex offender laws aimed at keeping offenders at least 1,000 feet away from places where children gather don't work, according to a legislative policy analyst.
Marti Harkness told a Florida House committee Tuesday that such limits are ineffective and said more productive measures would include installing electronic monitoring devices and reducing the 1,000 feet measure to smaller areas where children congregate.
Wake up world, neither GPS nor proximity laws will PREVENT crimes, because neither recognizes HOW -and- WHERE crimes are committed. i.e., by family, friends and acquaintances inside homes of victims or the acquaintances. Proximity to any specific place or hypothetical place (where kids gather) will not address the correct issue.
"These aren't my conclusions, but rather what I've seen in the published literature. What I have seen points to the fact that they aren't doing what they are intended to do, which is protect people from offenders," Harkness told CBS4. "The research shows no relationship where the offender lives and whether or not they commit a new offense."
Under Florida law, sex offenders must live at least 1,000 feet from schools, parks and areas where children gather.
In Miami, ordinances increased the limit from 1,000 to 2,500 feet and it has resulted in many registered sex offenders taking up residence along the Julia Tuttle Causeway. ..Source.. by Jasmine Kripalani
It's does not matter what this man says. Florida POLITICIAN'S will continue to ride the backs of sex offenders as a quick vote getting meal ticket.
ReplyDelete"If you vote for me, I will will burn the sex offenders at the stake"!
This country is not full of documentation that tells lawmakers and the general public that residency restrictions are not a deterrent to sex crimes. They actually increase the chances of a new one being committed.
But those damn POLITICIANS see a opportunity to gain a vote, so why not just keep LYING to the public. All the while are neighborhoods are becoming more and more unsafe.
I don't know about you, but I will never vote for a person who does not listen to a licensed professional on sex offender issues again. If they can't tell me the truth, then they can't hold office!
